LibreTech is your new favorite place to learn about free software. The content focuses either on already established programs or requires you to immerse yourself in a technical topic, opening an editor and coding it yourself while being guided by my (hopefully) comprehensive and clear explanation.
On the importance of Free Software
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a brief definition would go as follows: A Free software is a program respecting of users who have the right to run, copy, distribute, sell, study and modify it as they please.
As you can see the emphasis is on freedom, hence the name of this website using the much clearer term of 'Libre' in French. Next is the definition of the four essentials freedoms from the Free Software Foundation (FSF).
A program is free software if the program's users have the four essential freedoms:
- The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose (freedom 0).
- The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
- The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others (freedom 2).
- The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others (freedom 3). By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
I suggest that you read attentively the full definition given at: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html
The short answer is anything interesting and related to computer science and free software.
Unfortunately I do not have the ability to change the property of time and making it extensible. I have then no choice but to be reasonable and cover a few topics in a comprehensive manner.
The technical content encompass GNU/Linux & BSD, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Programming Language Theory and Quantum computing while the non technical ones are a Venn diagram of Technology, Free Software, Education, Society.
